How do you get a purl look on both sides when knitting?

I want to make a scarf that looks purl both back and front.

  1. DR + Mrs Bears face says:

There are 2 ways of doing this depending on the look you want.
    1) Work in garter stitch. Garter stitch is doing every row knit. This gives a reversible fabric.
    2) Knit the scarf in stocking stitch twice the width you require then sew up the long edge to make a tube with the purl side out. Or you could knit the tubular scarf with a circular needle.
